Hi folks ! "I'll Tell me Ma". This is one of the songs we will be singing and dancing to in class this week to celebrate St. Patrick's Day (Patron Saint of Ireland) on the 17th of March, the Irish National holiday. Practise the steps and look out for versions with the lyrics so we can sing our heads off whilst dancing! Lyrics.
By the way, what French word do we sometimes use in English to denote a beautiful woman?
Here's another typical Dublin song, Molly Malone, we could have a go at singing too although I doubt if we'll reach the heights of Sínead O'Connor.
What did Molly Malone sell?
Here's a typical matchmaking song in Irish (Gaelic) from the famous traditional folk group, Clannad who sing in both English and Irish.
What instruments are they playing?
Who is their famous sister who used to sing with them when she was a little girl?
I have attempted to follow the rythm, but I dance with two left.Definitely, dancing is not for me.

Hi Tim,
ResponderEliminarthis is an amusing song and invite to dance.
By the way, who is unfaithful he or she? ha ha!
I want to learn this dance!
see you on tuesday!
Hi Tim,
ResponderEliminarnearly 12 years ago a spent one month in a tiny village called Moate, about one hour from Dublin. There was an heritage centre called Dunnasi where there used to perform a traditional Irish group called "Mind the Step" One afternoon after their performance one friend and I had the opportunity of learning 2 or 3 basic step of the traditional Irish Dance. It´s was a wonderful experience, but I am afraid I don´t remember anything!!!
Maybe you can teach us some steps next Tuesday!
Hi manuel. It doesn't matter if you dance with two left feet. Just follow the rhythm and do whatever your body tells you!
ResponderEliminarHi Eva. I really haven't a clue about the steps but I'm sure that with a bit of imagination we can give it a go and have a good laugh!
ResponderEliminarHi Tim,
ResponderEliminarHow it,s going? This song is gorgeous!! I know the Clannad´s group, that it means: " an Clann as Dobhar" I think this is the real name.
By the way, answering your question I think they are playing these types of instruments: harp, cello, flute and classical guitar. I can´t remember very well the little girl´s name but I think she´s Enya, although the real name is Moya Brennan.
See you later, Bye!
Hi Estela.I'm glad you like the song. The girl in the video isn't actually Enya. It's her big sister!
ResponderEliminarTim, many thanks for showing us more about Irish culture and traditions. It was enjoyable.
ResponderEliminarHi María. You can find a wealth of interesting information if you go to discoverireland.ie, the Official web site of the Irish Tourist Board.
ResponderEliminarHi Tim,
ResponderEliminarcongratulations for the songs and the party. It was really funny. Although we knew a lot of thing about the Irish culture too.
I look forward the next party. hahaha
